SPOTLIGHT SATURDAY: KAYLEE JACIE
Happy Day 3 of the 12 Days of Blog Tips! Today’s blog post is going to be a little different! It’s SpotLight Saturday where I feature a boss babe from the Boss Girl Bloggers group. Today’s spotlight is on Kaylee! You can check her out her blog here And here’s her story:
Who Am I?
My name is Kaylee Jacie, and I blog over at KayleeJacie. I’m a lifestyle + motherhood blogger. We are expecting our first little girl in less than three weeks. So basically motherhood is new territory for me, but I absolutely love writing about my experiences and life lessons, especially with something so new and exciting as motherhood.
My blog consists of writings on life, parenthood, natural living, homemaking, cooking, meal planning, and Jesus- all things that I’m very passionate about! And trust me, it’s not a passion that I got over night.
Why I Started Blogging + Struggles I Overcame
I’ve always had a love for blogging. It was so exciting to me getting to share about my life, and I especially like talking. For those who know me, know I’m such a talker, it’s no joke, but I never knew how to put my thoughts into words. For some people, it comes naturally, which is why blogging is so easy for them! For me, not so much. Blogging for me was more of an acquired taste.
I had thousands of journals growing up. Writing in them came so easy to me, but having the thought of people actually reading what I had to say, scared me. Every time I sat down to try and write a blog post, I would try to envision it like I was in my room writing in my journal, but nothing ever came out and I would sit there. Maybe some of it was writers block, but it’s almost like I couldn’t get my words into writing, and I had so much to say. I was nervous to be vulnerable, I thought to myself, “What do I have to say that’s so important?” “No one will ever read that!” All the lies I told myself.
Aside from being a future stay at home mommy, and blogging on the sidelines, I also run a small cake baking and decorating business from my home. I love cakes and decorating, and try to bake when I have time. I ventured out in the beginning of my cake baking and opened up a baking blog. I wrote recipes and shared some of my favorite cakes. It worked great for a little while, but on top of baking cakes for my clients, AND trying to keep up a baking blog, I just couldn’t do it, so I laid that to rest. While creating my blog for baking I really enjoyed setting it up, and the creativity that came with writing blog posts, that’s when I decided to switch gears.
At that point I was just a girl with a hobby and passion, (and currently pregnant with lots of time on her hands for right now) wanting to share my life. So I searched around for sites where I could start my lifestyle blog. I used Wix for my baking blog, but I wanted to try something else. I landed on Blogger and went forward from there.
I got an adorable Blogger template that I installed and practically built up from scratch with coding.
Now get this, I have absolutely no background in coding, but I was driven. And I wanted to learn, so I would spend hours doing research to better understand how coding worked. If I wanted something installed on my blog, I would not give up until I found that bit of information of coding that I needed to implement into my blog, and that’s what I did.
I bought a domain and privacy from Go Daddy. It’s not the most up-to-date software, and as much as I would love to self host right now, it’s just not possible. I love my blog, and because I did a lot of the work on it, it’s sentimental to me.
What I Learned Through My Blogging Journey
As I was blogging more and more, I came to know myself better, my likes and dislikes. I learned my niche, which is a love for homemaking and motherhood, and that’s a passion I want to share with others. Letting people into my little corner- My life, my pictures, my stories, my family. I try to put a lot of thought and heart into all my writings, and I want my readers to leave with new ideas! Not feeling like they can’t add up to the perfect “lifestyle”. I want my lifestyle blogging to be authentic.
I eventually got to the point in my blogging where it didn’t matter if people read it. I didn’t want to go in with the mindset that I was building a business, but instead doing something I loved. I knew I had a purpose, and that was to write from my heart. I just couldn’t let the fear of being real keep me from being me.
The number one thing I probably learned most about myself through this journey of blogging, is 1.) you can do anything you put your mind to, and that you don’t have to be afraid to be who you are and 2.) That you do have a voice. And to always remember that.
