There are so many benefits to self hosting your blog. If you take the time to learn WordPress your blog has the potential to take off and help you turn your passion for blogging into an INCOME! What are the benefits of self hosting your blog? 6 HUGE Benefits!
Let’s start off with the MOST asked question in my Boss Girl Bloggers community. Why is a self hosted wordpress.org blog better than wix, blogger, wordpress.com and squarespace? What exactly are the benefits of a self hosted blog?
1. Limitless customization
The first benefit of self hosting your blog is the limitless customization. There are so many different ways you can customize your blog and if you are using a hosted platform (wix, squarespace, wordpress.com and blogger) your customization is EXTREMELY limited compared to a self hosted wordpress.org blog.
An added benefit of having a self hosted WordPress blog is that you ALSO get access to plug-ins and widgets that take the design and customization of your blog to the NEXT level. A self hosted blog comes off more professional with seamless designs and mobile responsive themes.
2. Complete control & ownership over your blog
A great benefit of self hosting your blog is that you have complete control and ownership over your blog. You can pretty much do whatever you want with it. If you want to move it to a different self host (because there’s many out there) you can also easily move your blog from one self host to the next.
If you have a squarespace, wix, or blog on blogger it’s not as easy to switch platforms. You should also keep in mind that if these platforms decide to close up shop, your blog will go with it!
You’ll also have the option to get a custom domain name which appears more professional. Instead of (www.yourdomainname.wix.com) it would be (www.yourdomainname.com)
3. Monetize any way you want with no restrictions
Having a self hosted blog means you can monetize however you want. You can use any affiliate links, ad programs, and sell products etc without any limitations.
If you have a free website on wix, wordpress.com, blogger, or squarespace you might be limited to the ads you are allowed to have on your blog and the ways you want to make money.
4. Server speed
One of my favorite benefits of self hosting my blog is having fast site speed. Wix is known to be slow compared to other platforms. If you have a slow site this could cause your audience to bounce before they even read your content. Having a slow site also affects how you rank on google.
5. Better SEO
Having a self hosted wordpress.org blog is better for SEO. If you don’t know, SEO is search engine optimization. When your site is properly optimized for search engines, you are able to rank higher on google! A self hosted blog has tons of helpful SEO plugins you can use such as YOAST SEO or Rank Math. It also allows you to easily edit your meta description.
6. More storage space
A lot of free blogging platforms run out of storage space QUICK. Having a self hosted site gives you a lot more space. This was necessary for me!
OVERALL THOUGHTS
If you want to be able to grow, monetize and have no limitations when it comes to your blog, a self hosted wordpress blog is the way to go!
I have been with Siteground for over 3 years now and I have zero complaints. I work full time from home as a blogger and I don’t regret my decision of transferring to Siteground one bit. They are an awesome self-host with a helpful support team! A lot of bloggers have this misconception that being self hosted means you will be on your own with no support. WRONG! Siteground has an awesome support team and they are always happy to assist.
If you are on the fence about transferring or starting a self hosted blog, let this be your sign to GO FOR IT.
